ABC tests 24-hour news channel
Published Wednesday, Jul 14 2004, 03:27 BST | By James Welsh
ABC is going to dip its toe into the world of 24-hour news channels by providing non-stop coverage of the upcoming political conventions in the States later this month.
Unlike CNN, MSNBC, Fox and CNBC, the ABC channel will be distributed to ABC's affiliate stations, which will then broadcast the signal as part of their digital multiplex. In the US, each individual station operates its own digital "multicast" signal, often broadcasting standard definition, high definition and ancillary programming services.
