Speaking to E! News, the writer and executive producer admitted that the dramedy had a tough time slot but insisted that he will stay positive about its chances of renewal.
"The network loves the show, but we're in an unbelievably, the single most competitive time period on TV," he said. "So what can you do? Someone needs to Tonya Harding that Bachelor dancer [Melissa Rycroft on Dancing With the Stars] on behalf of Chuck.
"No, I'm kidding. I wish her no ill will. She was spurned and deserves nothing but the best. But obviously the time slot is a challenge."
He added that the show, which stars Zachary Levi, will be "making bold moves" as it nears the end of the season, hinting that fans can expect an "emotional and action-packed" conclusion.
