Heather Locklear has reportedly passed on the opportunity to return for The CW's reboot of Melrose Place.

A representative for the actress, who played advertising executive Amanda Woodward in the original 1990s series, told Entertainment Weekly that she will not be returning for the new version.

According to an unnamed insider, show writers had decided that "there wasn't a way to bring her back that made sense".

Earlier this year, E! News reported that Locklear was being "courted" for the new series, which will feature a pilot episode written by One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn.

Former Supernatural star Katie Cassidy, singer Ashlee Simpson and Cloverfield actress Jessica Lucas have all been confirmed to star in the updated drama.

The CW has yet to comment.
