The actress, who played Dr. Elizabeth Corday from 1997 until 2004, told The Sun that she was "moved" to be invited to celebrate the end of the long-running medical show.
"It was so right and it was such a perfect ending, or sort of coming full circle, that I just thought, of course. And it doesn't feel contrived in any way and so I was really, really thrilled and really quite moved really... that [the producer] asked me back," she said.
She described her time on the programme as "just sheer joy", adding: "I loved coming to work every single day. There wasn't a day that I didn't enjoy and I quite happily could have continued forever."
Other former stars to have returned for the closing episodes include George Clooney (Dr. Doug Ross), Julianna Margulies (Nurse Carol Hathaway), Noah Wyle (Dr. John Carter) and Kingston's former screen husband Anthony Edwards (Dr. Mark Greene).
