NYPD Blue and L.A. Law actor Jimmy Smits has signed a new talent and production deal with American TV network ABC.
The new deal will take effect after Smits completes a season of work on NBC drama The West Wing, where he will play a Texas congressman with eyes on the presidency.
Smits will develop and star in a new series for ABC and Touchstone TV. The deal also calls for Smits to executive produce other projects for the two companies through his own production company, El Sendero Productions.
"Jimmy's a one-of-a-kind star, and we feel fortunate that he's decided to once again be part of the family," said ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson. "I couldn't be more excited to welcome him back to ABC."
