ABC cancels 'Samantha Who?'

ABC has axed Christina Applegate sitcom Samantha Who?, according to Variety.

The show had been expected to return for a third season but was cancelled due to budget tightening.

A source told the 'paper that ABC needed to cut as much as $500,000 per episode from the show's budget. The network reportedly considered switching to a multiple camera setup to help cut costs but eventually decided to order new comedies at a cheaper price instead.

Applegate was nominated for an Emmy in 2008 for outstanding lead actress in a comedy for her role in the sitcom.
