The show will be his first TV role since Everybody Loves Raymond, while he co-wrote the pilot with former Raymond writer Mike Royce.
He told The Late Show With David Letterman: "We're filming it this summer, it's gonna start in December on TNT. It's a one-hour dramedy, I guess. I love the idea of it.
"I like that we're a little less censored. You don't know how many times on Raymond I wanted to say, 'Shut the f**k up, Debra?'"
Earlier this year, it was reported that Romano will play a "neurotic but friendly" divorced father-of-two in the programme, about three men in their 40s.
