The actress will appear in a Judy Garland song and dance tribute on July 23. Rumours about the Dawson's Creek star appearing on the show first surfaced last month when she was spotted at CBS studios wearing her dancing gear.
Holmes's routine is based around Garland's song 'Get Happy' from the musical Summer Stock. According to judge Nigel Lythgoe, she will wear Garland's iconic "jacket" and "little hat".
"It's just an iconic look," he told People. "And Katie Holmes has got the legs. Wow!"
The performance will raise money for the Dizzy Feet Foundation, which Holmes co-founded with Lythgoe, Hairspray director Adam Shankman and Dancing With The Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba. The organisation will support and improve dance education across the US.
"I think it's important for children to experience music and dance," said Holmes. "Every child should have the opportunity to discover what it is they like and have access to the very best in that pursuit."
