A hug between Sacha Baron Cohen's Brüno character and Today Show host Matt Lauer was not aired on television.

The actor's flamboyant Austrian alter ego was interviewed on the chatshow wearing a silver lamé jumpsuit, People reports.

However, when the comedian demanded an embrace from Lauer, the segment faded to black and left viewers unable to watch the moment transpire.

The journalist later informed Cohen that the Austrian Minister to Great Britain had called for the movie to be boycotted for its depiction of the country, which left the character upset, saying: "This is the first I'm hearing of this."

It was reported earlier that Cohen enlisted a real-life terrorist to appear in the film, which opens in cinemas today.
