The 40-year-old actress played Olive Snook on the cancelled ABC series about a pie maker who brought people back from the dead. At first, she thought that her outstanding supporting actress nomination was a joke, says The Hollywood Reporter.
She said: "I worked really late and was tired. When my manager woke me with a phone call to tell me, I thought it was a prank."
Chenoweth went to admit that her shock soon gave way to bittersweet vindication that the off-air show was being recognised.
She added: "That it got five nominations is just a wonderful curtain call for the cast. We were part of something very special, and we deserved more of a chance."
The Wicked star recently claimed that there is a possibility that series creator Bryan Fuller may make a full-length Pushing Daisies film.
The Emmy Awards will be televised live from Los Angeles on September 20.
