The former O.C. star, 23, is understood to have been taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre on Wednesday after police responded to a non-emergency call to attend her Los Angeles home.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, sources insisted that the delay had nothing to do with Barton's hospitalisation and was simply because some of the necessary sets had not been completed in time.
A publicist for the actress is reported to have told the Daily Star that production could begin without her, insisting that her participation would "ultimately be contingent upon her progress and doctor's orders".
The Beautiful Life, which is executive produced by Ashton Kutcher, revolves around a group of models living together in New York. Production is now scheduled to begin on July 31.
