CBS apologises for breaking news

American TV network CBS has taken the bizarre step of issuing an apology for breaking into CSI: NY to report the breaking news of Yasser Arafat's death.
The network pulled out of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation spin-off last night when it became clear that Arafat had died. Today, however, CBS posted the following statement on its website:
"An overly aggressive CBS News producer jumped the gun with a report that should have been offered to local stations for their late news. We sincerely regret the error."
CBS will even go so far as to repeat the CSI: NY episode on Friday night at 10pm. A repeat of a CSI: Crime Scene Investigation episode had been scheduled for that slot.
