The host told The Sun that it was vital to have a good relationship with everyone on the programme.
Deeley said: "We were doing series six at the same time as being in the studio for series five. We have to have a great working relationship because otherwise we'd be pulling each other's hair out.
"It's a real family and all the kids from the previous seasons come back to the show. They come around to my house for a Fourth of July barbecue."
She added: "We work hard and play hard. We finish a live show on a Thursday, jump straight on to the plane, fly through the night, to film in New Orleans all day and then we'll be out at 3am having coffee and seeing a jazz band.
"You have to be like that otherwise you don't enjoy the success of the show. We are a family and nobody understands what everyone else is going through as much as the people going through it with them."
It was recently confirmed that Fox will air the sixth season of So You Think You Can Dance as part of its Fall schedule.
