It was confirmed today that Law & Order star Jerry Orbach has died of prostate cancer at the age of 69.
Orbach's spokesperson, Audrey Davis, told the Associated Press that Orbach had been undergoing treatment for the condition for several weeks.
Orbach played the character of Lennie Briscoe in Law & Order from 1992 through to this year. He was also in production to appear in a spinoff, Trial By Jury, which is set to air in early 2005.
"I'm immensely saddened by the passing of not only a friend and colleague, but a legendary figure of 20th-century show business," said Law & Order creator and executive producer Dick Wolf. "He was one of the most honoured performers of his generation. His loss is irreplaceable."
