CNN/US simulcasts CNNI for live coverage

Hugh Riminton

CNN's domestic news channel provided far stronger tsunami coverage in the initial days of the disaster than other American news services by making extensive use of its 24/7 international news service.

That trend continued into the New Year, with CNN's domestic news channel scheduling hours of live coverage from CNN International on the weekend in place of pre-recorded programming such as Next@CNN and People In The News. CNN competitor MSNBC, meanwhile, scheduled re-runs of NBC News documentaries on subjects including John F. Kennedy and Ben Stiller for its weekend lineup.

Hugh Riminton, whom CNN recently hired from Australia's Nine Network, is anchoring the dual CNN/US and CNNI broadcasts.
