The network originally picked up the reincarnation drama pilot to series in May, but has since reduced the order to just seven episodes.
A statement from Fox reads: "Due to the return of American Idol, 24 and our other midseason programming in January, as well as the back order of Glee, we have a wealth of material for midseason and can only accommodate seven episodes of Past Life on our schedule."
The drama, which follows a team of detectives - headed up by former Home and Away star Nicholas Bishop - using the theory of reincarnation, is currently scheduled to air Tuesday nights after a lead-in from Idol.
