Last month, reports surfaced which suggested that Morrison - Dr Allison Cameron on the Fox series - would be departing the show midseason as part of a 'creative decision'.
Her exit storyline will apparently see her marriage to Dr Chase crumble after he purposely misdiagnoses a patient, leading to said patient's death.
However, asked by TV Guide magazine if her exit would be permanent, the show's executive producer David Shore said: "This rumour is a rumour.
"Dr Chase is going to face a consequence from his actions, and Jennifer will be leaving for a while as a result. I don't want to deny or diminish that, but I also don't want to act like this is the end."
He continued: "Having said that, I really don't know. We are mapping out our stories as we go along. We certainly don't know what the end of the season is. We are figuring it out."
Jesse Spencer - aka Dr Chase - added that he believes Cameron's departure is a natural part of the season six story.
"If your spouse commits murder, what do you expect?" he said. "Your partner is going to have a reaction at some point."
Morrison's exit will air in November on Fox in the US. She will depart UK screens a few weeks later.
