The former Sabrina The Teenage Witch star has been tapped to play a "political dynasty wild child-turned politician" in the untitled comedy.
Speaking to Access Hollywood, she said: "Hopefully it'll go to series. It's going to be a fun little sassy character for me.
"It's going be different because I get to play a little bit more of a grown-up, a politician, kind of a bad girl politician."
The plot is believed to revolve around a woman called Hailey (Hart) who takes in her teenage niece and young nephew when her sister is jailed.
Joey Lawrence has also signed on for the pilot, playing a "manny" who moves in with Hailey's family.
