The teams leave the luxury of the Atlantis resort in Dubai to fly to the Netherlands for the seventh leg of this season's competition.
Meghan and Cheyne are the first pair to depart, followed by Maria and Tiffany, Sam and Dan, Brian and Ericka, Gary and Matt, and finally, Flight Time and Big Easy.
They are instructed to jet to the Netherlands and locate the Lely Monument on a 19-mile causeway in order to find their next clue.
Dubai to Amsterdam
At the airport, the teams learn that the earliest flight is midnight, meaning that they have a chance to chat as they wait. The Globetrotters recount Mika's refusal to go down the waterslide, while Sam and Dan decide that it's the right time to reveal that they are both gay.
"Gay or straight, it doesn't matter," says Tiffany. "They are still the most sweet and adorable and gentlemanly guys on this race with us. Who they choose to date, we really couldn't care less. Maybe there's a little tear drop that it isn't us!"
Arriving in Amsterdam, Meghan and Cheyne are first to find the monument and secure the clue. It instructs them to drive to Groningen and find Martinitoren, the tallest building in the city. The other teams quickly follow them, with Brian and Ericka bringing up the rear after experiencing difficulty getting their rented car to start.
Roadblock: Martinitoren, Groningen
At the roadblock, one team member must climb the tower and count the bells inside. When they have the final number, which is 62, they must tell the carillon, who will present them with the next clue if they are right.
Matt is the first to secure the clue, while Cheyne and Sam quickly follow him. As they return down the tower, Sam bumps into Tiffany on the steps and whispers the correct figure to her. "It was a smart move because they are a team that we can beat," he later explains.
The clue directs them to travel to Vierhuizen De Marne and find a specific windmill. Back inside the tower, the Globetrotters manage to complete the bell challenge and retrieve the clue, but Ericka is forced to start again after counting wrong.
As the other teams progress to the detour challenge, Brian and Ericka remain behind as she again gets the final number wrong. "It seems like it should be really easy but it's clearly not," she says. "I just don't want to go home on account of bells."
She takes a breather outside and after a pep talk from Brian heads back in and manages to secure the correct number and the next clue. "I'm so proud of her, she made my day by not giving up," says Brian, while Ericka panics about being eliminated because they are so far behind.
Detour: Farmer's Dance or Farmer's Game?
Sam and Dan are first to arrive in Vierhuizen De Marne and discover this leg's detour challenge. For both options they must dress in traditional Dutch costumes and ride bikes to their chosen destination.
In Farmer's Game, they must strip to their underwear and swim across a creek before completing three holes of golf in eight strokes each time. In Farmer's Dance, they must locate a country festival, ring a bell on top of a high striker and learn a Dutch folk dance.
Sam and Dan and Meghan and Cheyne both choose the game option, while Gary and Matt and Maria and Tiffany opt for the dancing challenge. Sam and Dan quickly secure the next clue which directs them to this leg's pitstop, but Meghan and Cheyne struggle with the fierce winds and uneven surface.
Over at the dance hall, Gary and Matt have a change of heart and decide to golf after Matt discovers that part of the dancing challenge involves eating salted herring. Elsewhere, Maria and Tiffany struggle to hit the bell on the high striker and, after their 30th attempt, they give up and also switch to golf.
Back at the golf course, Meghan and Cheyne finally earn the next clue as Maria and Tiffany begin the game. The girls soon realize that the challenge is harder than it looks and after several unsuccessful attempts at the first hole they decide to give dancing another go.
Elsewhere, the Globetrotters also opt for the dancing challenge. They easily hit the bell and complete the dance, while Maria and Tiffany continue to struggle with their strength. After their 71st attempt at the bell, they emotionally decide to switch tasks again and head back to the golf.
Brian and Ericka are the final team to arrive in the village. However, they fail to read their clue properly and end up walking to the detour instead of cycling. They opt for the dance challenge and complete it quickly. "That was the moment I fell in love with him again", says Ericka, as they secure their next clue.
It's less successful for the girls on the golf course, who are on their 16th attempt to complete the first hole and battling physical exhaustion and the cold, windy weather. "I don't think I have anything left," says Tiffany, as they realise they are falling far behind the other teams.
Pitstop: Zoutkamp Harbor
Sam and Dan are the first team to arrive at the harbor and Phil tells them that they have won a sand buggy. They are followed by Meghan and Cheyne, Flight Time and Big Easy, and Gary and Matt.
Brian and Ericka are the fifth team to arrive at the pitstop, after borrowing bicyles from a family at the village. They are amazed that they are not in last place but devastated when Phil tells them that they failed to read the clue properly and must incur a 30-minute penalty.
They face an agonizing wait for Maria and Tiffany to arrive but when there is no sign of them after half an hour, Phil declares them the fifth and final team for this week.
Phil heads over to the golf course to speak to Maria and Tiffany, who are huddled together. He says that he understands they want to give up on the race.
"We don't want to give up," Tiffany corrects him. "But we do not foresee that we will be able to finish this challenge." Maria adds: "We know in our hearts that we've really given every challenge our all and that's all we can do."
