The Pineapple Express actor is to play himself on a forthcoming episode of the Emmy-winning comedy, according to Entertainment Weekly.
He is said to become involved in a fake relationship with Jenna (Jane Krakowski), which will be orchestrated by their agents to garner publicity.
NBC has declined to comment on the casting of the 31-year-old. However, series star Tina Fey previously spoke about the storyline, saying: "[Jenna gets] into a high-profile relationship with a movie star that is arranged by their agents."
Franco recently joined the cast of soap opera General Hospital.
