The 10pm show, which saw Rihanna reveal details of her turbulent relationship with Chris Brown, drew 8.18m and won its timeslot.
Its nearest rival, CBS's Numb3rs, put in 8.09m, while The Jay Leno Show managed 4.6m.
NBC won the 8pm hour with Law & Order, which interested 7.99m, just beating Ghost Whisperer's 7.93m for CBS.
Supernanny grabbed 4.75m for ABC, a rerun of House had 3.91m for Fox, and The CW's Smallville was seen by 2.76m.
At 9pm, a second Law & Order put in 8.41m for NBC, 7.58m watched Medium on CBS, and ABC's Ugly Betty took 4.76m.
Reruns of Bones and America's Next Top Model logged 4.09m and 1.15m for Fox and The CW respectively.
