A film collector in Germany acquired a print of an alternate version of the science fiction show's second pilot 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' and "brought it to the attention" of Paramount, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The restored episode, completed in 1965, will be included in the forthcoming Star Trek: Original Series - Season 3 Blu-ray set.
The instalment features a different version of Captain Kirk's opening monologue, spoken by William Shatner, an unfamiliar musical theme and extended action sequences.
The original Star Trek pilot 'The Cage' was rejected by NBC in the 1960s.
