Good Morning America has been accused of sending mixed messages after inviting Chris Brown onto the programme.

The breakfast show recently cancelled an appearance by American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert after he kissed a man at the American Music Awards.

However, the New York Post reports that Brown, who was convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rihanna earlier this year, has been invited onto the show.

An ABC insider reportedly said: "The network is giving a mixed message - that it doesn't trust someone who shocked with an unpredictable show and a gay kiss, but then is happy to go ahead with Chris Brown, who was convicted of felony assault."

However, other ABC sources claimed that Lambert was dropped because he had shown himself to be "unpredictable" on live television.

The insiders added that Brown's appearance was booked before Lambert's controversial performance at the AMAs.
