The Emmy-winning reality producer and his team will work on the show's forthcoming fifth season, taking over from the exiting 495 Productions.
"[Burnett will] infuse [the show] with fresh perspective and innovative ideas that will serve as a blueprint for a successful fifth season," said HGTV senior vice president of programming Freddy James.
He added: "The Mark Burnett team is extremely creative and talented - masters at crafting entertaining reality programming."
The reality competition pits interior designers, decorators and design enthusiasts against each other for a chance to host their own HGTV show.
