The cartoon stars an anamorphic sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea and is voiced by Tom Kinney.
"After a decade on our air, SpongeBob has emerged as one of the most beloved and popular characters in television history," said Brown Johnson, president of animation for Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids & Family Group.
The pick-up comes on the heels of SpongeBob's Truth or Square: 10th Anniversary Special, which aired on November 6 to an audience of 7.7m viewers.
