Conan O'Brien 'signs deal to leave NBC'

Conan O'Brien has signed an agreement to leave NBC, it has been claimed.

According to the Wall Street Journal, "a person familiar with the situation" revealed that the Tonight Show host signed the deal at around 1am Pacific time.

O'Brien's manager Gavin Polone said: "In the end, Conan was appreciative of the steps NBC made to take care of his staff and crew, and decided to supplement the severance they were getting out of his own pocket.

"Now he just wants to get back on the air as quickly as possible."

Full details of the final agreement are not yet known, though it is believed to include a payout of $12 million for O'Brien's staff and $32 million for O'Brien himself.

It is also believed that the presenter will be barred or limited from hosting his own show or appearing on other programmes for an unknown period of time.

NBC will reportedly announce the agreement later this morning and could now return Jay Leno to his former 11.35pm timeslot.

Yesterday, it was claimed that O'Brien's talks with the network had stalled over the issue of staff compensation, while it has been suggested that Fox has already signed up the presenter for the channel.
