However, in order to conduct interviews for the show's 7am EST start time, athletes must travel by tram at 4am 20 minutes outside of Vancouver to the news programme's mountainside set.
"They'll come," executive producer Jim Bell told The AP. "Even though it's 4am, we're excited to have great guests, great crowds, great energy. It's the Olympics.
"People will want to come if they have a medal draped around their neck or if they want to hold up a sign saying 'hi' to the people back home. It doesn't matter to us what time it is."
Matt Lauer and Natalie Morales are to arrive first at the Today set on Grouse Mountain; Lauer will carry the Olympic torch through the town of Burnaby, BC as part of the relay. Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Ann Curry then arrive on February 12, the day of the opening ceremonies.
