Emmitt Smith has revealed that he had no worries about what he might discover while taping Who Do You Think You Are?

The football legend is one of seven celebrities - including executive producer Lisa Kudrow - who travelled into their past for the NBC series, which premiered last week.

Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "I wasn't [nervous], because you know what, whatever I found out wasn't going to affect me or the way I think right now.

"What it was going to do was either make me better or make me drive harder to continue to press towards the mark of something greater than what I am today. It wasn't going to make me regress, put it that way."

He continued to say that he had "immediately" agreed to do the show when he was approached, explaining that it has provided him with a "great opportunity" to connect to his ancestors.

"Considering that I missed so many family reunions over my years due to football and my commitment to trying to become one of the best athletes that I possibly could become, this provided me an opportunity to stay connected with my family."

Who Do You Think You Are? continues this Friday at 8pm ET on NBC.
