The 30-year-old will play the lead in Red, a dark take on the Little Red Riding Hood fairy tale, reports Entertainment Weekly.
The film centres on a young woman named Red (Day) who introduces her fiancé to her werewolf-hunting family. The fiancé is later bitten by a werewolf, leading the family to turn against him and Red.
The film will premiere on Syfy in 2011.
Day is also known for her web series The Guild and for guest starring on Joss Whedon's Dollhouse.
