The former Bachelorette star travelled to rural Oklahoma to help rebuild the home of Brian and Audra Skaggs, whose 2-year-old son has a weakened immune system after receiving a heart transplant. The family called Extreme Makeover because they feared that the deterioration of their home posed a potential health risk to the sick boy.
"The Skaggs reminded me of my kind of people," Harris said. "They love country music, campfires, family."
The reality personality, who is also an interior designer, claimed that she was "frazzled" after the whirlwind experience of participating on The Bachelor and later The Bachelorette.
"I missed the 'regular', spunky energetic Jilly, and worried if she would ever come back… But after my experience with the Skaggs and the Extreme team, she came back! As cliché as it sounds, it brought me back to me. [My fiancé] Ed [Swiderski] noticed a change in me, as did family and friends. It really inspired me - it was the true definition of a profound experience."
Harris moved to Chicago, Swiderski's hometown, last September. The couple have said that they will wed later this year.
