The former American Idol judge has joined the cast of the ABC talent competition as host.
Abdul was previously rumoured to have joined the judges' panel of the American X Factor, launched by former Idol mate Simon Cowell.
The former choreographer and singer recently hosted the VH1 Divas special, though she has shied away from other television appearances.
Star Search marks Abdul's first permanent gig since departing from Idol last year.
