CNN/US to retool afternoon programming
Published Wednesday, May 11 2005, 07:19 BST | By James Welsh
CNN/US president Jon Klein has confirmed that the network plans to re-tool its programming on weekday afternoons.
Beginning Monday, June 6, Your World Today from CNN International will air on CNN/US weekdays from noon to 1pm ET (9-10am PT).
"The simulcast demonstrates the depth and reach of the entire CNN News Group and not just one domestic network," said Klein. "We cover international news better than anyone. Why not give our U.S. viewers a real opportunity to see the type of stories they cannot see anywhere else?"
CNN/US won critical praise for its extensive simulcasts of CNN International during the tsunami disaster, and frequently draws on CNNI to cover live events in the US overnight hours.
"CNN has the unique ability to gather and report news from even the most remote parts of the world," said Chris Cramer, CNN International's managing director. "Unlike every other domestic news network, CNN has an international strategy, a plan to bring the news of the world to the world. This simulcast is indicative of that effort."
The programme will replace News From CNN, anchored by Wolf Blitzer, on the CNN/US schedule. According to a memo obtained by TVNewser, CNN's programming from 3-6pm ET on weekdays will originate out of Washington, D.C., with previous speculation indicating that Blitzer will take over that whole timeslot. The new 3-6pm ET show will replace Inside Politics, Crossfire, and Blitzer's other daily show, Wolf Blitzer Reports.
