The 28-year-old will play Ben, a young man who is awaiting true love while enjoying a relationship with Sara (Danneel Harris), who is also looking for the perfect mate.
Hansen replaces Patrick J. Adams, who was originally cast in the role, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The show's script is penned by (500) Days of Summer scribes Michael Weber and Scott Neustadler. Wedding Crashers helmer David Dobkin has signed to direct the pilot.
Friends is currently in second position to Hansen's role on the Starz comedy Party Down.
