Chad Lowe joins 'Pretty Little Liars'

Chad Lowe has joined the cast of upcoming ABC Family drama Pretty Little Liars.

The show is based on a series of young adult novels by Sara Shepard, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The books centre on four teenage girls who receive strange messages, presumably from a friend who has disappeared.

Lowe has signed to play the girls’ father. He replaces Dollhouse actor Alexis Denisof, who played the role in the pilot.

Lucy Hale, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario and Ashley Benson will play the daughters.

Lowe, the brother of Rob Lowe, has recurred on 24 and appeared on Bones and The Ghost Whisperer.
