The pilot episode of the new drama, which starred Jeremy Northam and Lana Parrilla, won its 10pm slot.
In the 9pm hour, the second instalment of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution dropped spectacularly to 4.31m for ABC - losing a total of 3.2m from last week's rating.
On Fox, a rerun of Kitchen Nightmares had 3.61m, and an old America's Next Top Model could only manage 1.28m. Meanwhile, Medium took 6.18m for CBS.
NBC's Dateline averaged 6.63m over two hours. The current affairs programme saw off competition in the 9pm hour, but came second in the 10pm slot. However, it beat ABC's 20/20, which scored 4.86m.
Earlier at 8pm, NBC's Who Do You Think You Are? - which featured actress Brooke Shields - continued to shed viewers with just 5.9m tuning in. Ghost Whisperer pipped the documentary series, logging 5.91m for CBS.
At the same time, the premiere of ABC's Wife Swap picked up a disappointing 3.57m, while a repeat of House took 2.85m for Fox. Smallville averaged 1.99m for The CW.
