The 28-year-old has been cast as the top Fringe case investigator in the show's alternate universe, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Gabel will appear on the sci-fi series' two-part season ender, scheduled to air on May 13 and May 20.
It is said that the actor could reprise the role next season.
Fringe consulting producer Akiva Goldsman revealed that the season finale will take a more cinematic approach and mostly occur in the alternate universe.
"We're trying to do the last two episodes as a singular event, a little bit more movie-like," he said.
Goldsman added: "It's really one big story. We're approaching it like a mini-feature. It'll have a singular narrative drive."
Fringe, produced by J.J. Abrams, airs Thursday nights on Fox.
