Variety reports that the network will scrap reality shows including Rock Of Love, Flavour Of Love and Tool Academy to make way for 44 new series.
VH1 will organise its shows into music, celebrities and real-life. Music-related programmes will make up 40% of the schedule from September.
Jeff Olde, the executive vice-president of programming, told the Daily Variety: "This is part of our ongoing evolution. Our viewers are voracious customers looking for new stories and we wanted to ramp up our development slate. It's the right time to get super-aggressive."
VH1 will produce two wedding shows, with My Big Friggin Wedding examining disagreements between brides and grooms about their nuptials and Wedding Wars pitting couples against each other as they fight to win their dream ceremony.
Meanwhile, Money Hungry will see ten overweight duos compete for a $100,000 prize and You're Cut Off follows nine women who are banned from going on shopping sprees.
VH1 is also working with Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker to develop a reality show about the staff at her restaurant Beso, while Dr Drew Pinsky is in negotiations about a new programme in which couples decide whether to reconcile or separate.
The network has already announced upcoming shows Football Wives, The OCD Project and a programme involving American football player Chad Ochocinco.
