Holly Marie Combs has revealed that her new show Pretty Little Liars tries to be faithful to the novels written by Sara Shephard.

However, the actress, who previously starred in Charmed, explained that the television show speeds events up.

"At the moment, we're only on episode three and we're trying to cover everything the books encompass in a way that makes everyone feel satisfied," she told the New York Post.

"Which is basically an impossible task. But the books had a very big following as it was so there's some responsibility to be loyal to what's in them."

Combs, who plays Ella Montgomery in the series, continued: "But that being said, we're going to go through them very quickly. I think Ella's husband doesn't have an affair till the second book and we have that in the first episode. We're expediting storylines. And from what I heard, they get divorced and Ella begins dating younger men. Which kind of horrifies me... I'm a little bit nervous about that."

Pretty Little Liars premieres on June 8 at 8pm on ABC Family.
