The actress, who plays Laurie, explained that she is pleased with people's reactions to the show.
"I think it's really neat that people have responded to the way our show has evolved," she told the New York Post.
"I think initially they tuned in to see a gimmick, but I'm glad they stuck around to see what a cool show it's turned into as the characters developed. I feel really lucky that so many people love and support the show."
Philipps added that she is pleased with the direction the series has taken, saying: "I loved the pilot, but I have to be honest - I love the show that I'm on now even more. This is the kind of show I always wanted to be on. About halfway through the season I turned to my husband and said, 'I'm on a totally different show, this is awesome, I love this show!' It just gets weirder and funnier and cracks me up each week."
However, Philipps admitted that she is unsure about discussions to change the show's name.
"I have mixed emotions," she explained. "I feel like people already have it in their TiVo's as 'Cougar Town'. So I think changing the title is tricky. But I also get it because I don't think the show is indicative of the title. I believe something else would suit it better, but I don't know how that would work. Thankfully, I don't work for the network."
Cougar Town continues in the UK on Tuesday at 9pm on Living.
