HBO has ordered a new pilot from True Blood showrunner Alan Ball.

All Signs Of Death is a dark comedy drama based on the Charlie Huston novel The Mystic Arts Of Erasing All Signs Of Death, Deadline reports.

The show focuses on a young man who ends up as a crime scene cleaner. However, he gets caught up in a murder mystery, a 'femme fatale' and events from his past.

Ball, who previously created Six Feet Under, admitted that "death is a theme [he is] fascinated by".

"It's not so much about the crime, it's about the personal story of the central character and his journey back to being fully connected with his life after some very traumatic things," Ball explained.

"The show is about contemporary Los Angeles, but not the glamorous LA. It's about the dirty underbelly of LA. We're going to try to go against the grain, away from the overlit, stylised noir for a more contemporary, naturalistic style."

He added: "All Signs has a hard noir feel but it's also ironic - it's graphic and gritty but human and very moving at the same time. It is able to capture all those elements in a very distinctive tone."

Ball will executive produce and direct the project, while Huston will write the script. Casting is currently underway so that production can begin in August.
