TV viewing record broken
Published Friday, Sep 16 2005, 21:10 BST | By James Welsh
Suresh Joachim has broken the Guinness world record for the longest time spent watching television.
The previous record stood at 50 hours and 7 minutes. Joachim far exceeded this, clocking up 69 hours and 48 minutes by the time he finished on Friday morning.
Joachim watched TV in the lobby of New York City's ABC station, WABC-TV and appeared on the "Guinness World Record Breaker Week" on Live with Regis and Kelly, a syndicated show that airs after Good Morning America in many markets. The TV was tuned to WABC throughout.
Under Guinness rules, a five-minute break was permitted once an hour followed by a positively luxurious fifteen-minute break every eight hours. At all other times, Joachim had to be looking directly at the TV screen.
