US Ratings: 'Lost' nears premiere ratings
Published Thursday, Sep 29 2005, 19:38 BST | By James Welsh
Nearly 23m viewers tuned in for the second episode of Lost's second season on Wednesday night, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures.
The ratings powerhouse handed ABC the night by a huge margin and barely lost ground on its record-breaking season premiere last week. Fast national data indicates Lost drew 22.7m, down a touch from 23.47m last week but nowhere near the dropoff that second episodes usually see compared to season premieres. In Lost's 9pm timeslot, CBS placed a distant second with Criminal Minds (10.6m), followed by E-Ring (7.6m) on NBC and Nanny 911 (6.5m) on Fox. Veronica Mars hit a new series high on UPN, drawing 3.2m viewers.
A repeat of Lost's season premiere at 8pm drew 11.5m viewers, winning the slot for ABC. Comedies on CBS averaged 8.55m in the hour, closely followed by So You Think You Can Dance (7.4m) on Fox. NBC slumped into fourth place with The Apprentice: Martha Stewart falling to just 6.2m on its second outing.
At 10pm, NBC surged into first place with Law & Order drawing 14.7m viewers, many of whom were undoubtedly SVU viewers tuning in for this week's crossover event. CSI: NY came in a close second with 13.1m viewers, with Invasion on ABC drawing 13m, down from 16.43m the previous week.
