The makeover series sees Roe attempting to transform Plain Janes into glamorous and confident women by overhauling their fashion sense, beauty regimes and romantic lives.
Speaking to DS, she said: "We've all had a moment in our lives – at least one – where we have felt like that.
"I think that's the universal appeal, whether it's a rejection from a guy, having a crappy hair day, a fat day, a bad clothes day, it's just that time when you just want to be invisible and these girls live their lives like that."
When asked if she could empathise with the contestants herself, the fashion expert replied: "Absolutely, oh gosh - awkward moments at school wearing braces or rejection from guys, of course I've been through that. Fashion-wise, I'm a bit more sorted or I'd hope I was because that's what I do for a living!"
She added: "I don't think there is one woman in the world who hasn't had moments when her confidence has been really bashed and she's felt like being a wallflower."
Plain Jane premieres tonight at 9/8c on The CW.
