The actress found fame as the troubled River Tam in Joss Whedon's Firefly and later played Cameron in Fox series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Glau told KSiteTV: “I’ve always played kind of kick-ass girls, but Orwell’s different, because she’s on her own completely, and she obviously has a lot of resources that none of my other characters have had before, which is really fun."
The show sees investigative blogger Orwell team up with superhero The Cape to face off against crime and corruption in Palm City.
“I’m really exploring how it feels to play someone who really seems to have no fear," said Glau. "She’s going for it, going after these corporations and powerful men, and it’s different.”
She explained that the series itself also contains certain elements that set it apart from other shows.
“I love the quality of hope and the quality of humour in it,” she said.
The Cape - which also stars David Lyons as the titular hero - has been commissioned by NBC as a midseason replacement.
