'SVU' for 'Law & Order: LA' crossover

An upcoming episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit will feature a crossover with new series Law & Order: Los Angeles.

Access Hollywood reports that an investigation involving a rape kit will see Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) travel from New York City to Los Angeles.

Hargitay will film her portion of the storyline while visiting LA for the Emmy Awards later this month, having been nominated for 'Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series' for her role as Benson.

Law & Order: LA regular Detective Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich) will also feature in the episode, which will air on September 29. The new spinoff will premiere later the same night.

Law & Order: SVU returns to NBC with a two-hour season premiere on September 22.
