The broadcaster announced in June that he is planning to stop working on Larry King Live.
The New York Post has now claimed that the network is asking him to stay until the end of the year because his rumoured replacement Piers Morgan is struggling to get a visa.
Morgan currently hosts America's Got Talent during the summer but is said to be finding it difficult to upgrade his current visa so that he can work in the US full time.
King, who was originally expected to leave in October or November, was reportedly happy that he was given the opportunity to extend his time on CNN.
A spokesperson for CNN declined to comment on the reports that King is delaying his departure, saying: "[Because] no date has been announced yet, there's nothing specific at this point."
King is expected to continue making programmes for CNN after he steps down from Larry King Live.
