NBC seeks Thursday comedy comeback

In seeking to revitalise itself for 2006, NBC is turning to a previously successful formula for Thursday night success: a "Must See TV" comedy block.

Although the halycon days of Friends are long behind the network, NBC entertainment chief Kevin Reilly says that the new mid-season schedule will allow the network "to bring back a block of quality comedy to Thursday nights."

In the changes, Will & Grace - now in its final season - will shift to 8pm, with new comedy Four Kings following at 8:30pm. My Name Is Earl moves from Tuesday to the 9pm Thursday slot, with The Office at 9:30pm. ER will continue to round-off the evening at 10pm. Joey and The Apprentice will disappear from the schedule until the other side of NBC's Winter Olympics coverage.

Tuesday will also see a revamp, with Scrubs making a welcome return to the schedule in an hour-long block at 9pm. Wednesday night will be tweaked with The Biggest Loser: Special Edition taking up residence at 9pm. Friday is also not spared a tweak, with Most Outrageous TV Moments at 8pm and new drama The Book of Daniel appearing at 10pm.

Monday, Saturday and Sunday will remain on their previously announced mid-season lineups.
