The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star told TV Guide that she was keen to return to her hometown of LA.
"I'm born and raised in LA, so I'm definitely up for doing [that]," she explained. "I go where the work is. My LA friends all want me to be on Law & Order: LA."
It was previously confirmed that Hargitay's character Olivia Benson would travel to Los Angeles as part of an investigation involving a rape kit.
"I'm so honoured that the SVU writers see the value in telling this story," she said. "And it's very cool how they're weaving our two shows together."
Law & Order: LA star Skeet Ulrich (Rex Winters) also confirmed that he was keen for Hargitay to join the spinoff.
"We could use an experienced detective," he joked. "That would be fantastic."
The crossover episode will air on on September 29. Law & Order: Los Angeles will premiere later the same night.
