A message posted on the event's official website claims that the telethon - which was watched by around 40 million viewers - pulled in $58,919,838 that will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
"I'm heartened by the unique ability of Americans to help others in need, when they themselves are likely struggling financially," said Lewis.
"People see the progress MDA is making for children and adults living with muscle diseases. I'm truly grateful for their caring enough to brighten the future for 'my kids'."
The telethon took place at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas and co-hosts included Alison Sweeney and Nancy O'Dell, while Nigel Lythgoe was among the special guest co-hosts. Barry Manilow, Enrique Iglesias and American Idol's David Archuleta were among the star-studded lineup.
