Jason Katims told Entertainment Weekly that he was satisfied with the exit of Kelly's character Lyla Garrity in the fourth season.
"I thought her final episode was so powerful," he said. "We talked about bringing her back, but I didn't really feel like anything we came up with beat the story in that episode, which I thought was really poignant."
Katims insisted that the episode provided closure to the romance between Lyla and Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch).
"It wasn't a happy ending, but it was a really satisfying ending for me," he claimed. "It was a satisfying resolution to that storyline."
Friday Night Lights returns to The 101 Network on October 27.
